Identification of Marker Genes for Differential Diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

36 Serum cytokine and chemokine profiles of individuals with myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) reveal distinct pathogen associated signatures
Cytokine, Volume 43, Issue 3, September 2008, Page 245
Vincent C. Lombardi, Doug Redelman, Darren C. White, Marc Fremont, Kenny DeMeirleir, Daniel Peterson and Judy A. Mikovits
Artikeln från ScienceDirect

Artikeln ovan har författare från the Whittemore Peterson Institute for Neuro Immune Disease ( http://www.wpinstitute.org/ ).

CitatWe used suspension antibody microarrays of 25-cytokines and chemokines on a Luminex platform for serum profiling of 168 ME/CFS patients and 140 healthy controls. Our analysis has revealed distinct pathogen associated signatures with significant 5- to 200-fold differences between patients and controls for the inflammatory serum chemokines IL-8, IP-10, MIP-a and MIP-1b, as well as the pro inflammatory cytokines IL-6, TNFa and IL-1b. Moreover, our data shows for the first time in ME/CFS a cytokine and chemokine profile, which suggests a TH17 shift in subgroups of our cohort. We conclude that cytokine and chemokine patterns in subgroups of ME/CFS can be used diagnostically, as serum biomarkers to stratify patients for appropriate anti-inflammatory,
antimicrobial and antiviral therapeutics.

Normalization of leaky gut in chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is accompanied by a clinical improvement: effects of age, duration of illness and the translocation of LPS from gram-negative bacteria.
Maes M, Leunis JC, 2008
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez/19112401

Kortisol modulerar bl.a. immunsystemet.

Gene Responsible for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Identified
The American Chronicle, October 01, 2009
http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/120820
CitatLight explains that there is a gene that produces a protein which tells the muscles when they are too tired to keep working. When this gene signals, people feel fatigued and are encouraged to rest.

Moderate Exercise Increases Expression for Sensory, Adrenergic, and Immune Genes in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Patients But Not in Normal Subjects.

CitatAfter a sustained moderate exercise test, CFS patients showed greater increases than control subjects in gene expression for
metabolite detecting receptors ASIC3, P2X4, and P2X5,
for SNS (sympathetic nervous system) receptors alpha-2A, beta-1, beta-2, and COMT and
IS (immune system) genes for IL10 and TLR4 lasting from 0.5 to 48 hours (P < .05).

Plasma cytokines in women with chronic fatigue syndrome
Mary ANN Fletcher , Xiao RONG Zeng , Zachary Barnes , Silvina Levis  and Nancy G. Klimas
Journal of Translational Medicine 2009, 7:96
Abstract: http://www.translational-medicine.com/content/7/1/96
Helversion PDF: http://www.translational-medicine.com/content/pdf/1479-5876-7-96.pdf
CitatThe following cytokines were elevated in CFS compared to controls: LTalpha, IL-1alpha, IL-1beta, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-12.
The following cytokines were decreased in CFS: IL-8, IL-13 and IL-15.
The following cytokines were not different: TNFalpha, IFNgamma, IL-2, IL-10, IL-23 and IL-17.
Applying (ROC) curve analyses, areas under the curves (AUC) for IL-5 (0. 84), LTalpha (0.77), IL-4 (0.77), IL-12 (0.76) indicated good biomarker potential. The AUC of IL-6 (0.73), IL-15 (0.73), IL-8 (0.69), IL-13 (0.68) IL-1alpha (0.62), IL-1beta (0.62) showed fair potential as biomarkers.
